Acrylic? Extra Credit? Yes?

Acrylic. Yes, I too am perplexed with my choice to make a few projects out of acrylic. From the natural interactions between wood and living breathing platforms, I have now included synthetic resin into the mix?

Maybe there is still a connection, maybe not. Maybe it is an ironic paradox? Clearly.

Anyhow, I will still attempt to make it contemporary and unconventional.

On a side note, I went to a really cool store in portland, and they had some art forms which I was able to appreciate, and draw some inspiration from. With all of this inspiration, I am going to attempt to complete my portfolio by April 7th.

I realize that this is where the photo is supposed to go, but my photos are not on the computer, so I will upload them at a later date, and use some inspiration photos (one as a breadth for an acrylic light fixture) as a placeholder. :D

The year is quickly coming to an end, and deadlines are coming up soon so I need to get working on my next projects for the portfolio.

One Idea I had, was to create a speaker/planter combination. I was thinking of using wood, but I found a designer that used metal and what appears to be some sort  of ceramic/concrete. We will see what I end up doing...

Clay Update

So, if you saw last weeks blog of mine, I decided to give clay a chance. Well, I gave clay a chance, and my first concentration-made-out-of-clay-piece came out of the bisque kiln yesterday. Today I finished three more pieces so I'm curious to see how it all turns out once i've gone through the glaze + add plants stage to create the contemporary planters. Yeah, so I guess we are also heading into AP time which means I need to get all of my pieces presentable and photographed!!

And back to my non-clay pieces this is my next inspiration: acrylic and stainless steel, two materials I have never worked with but it will be a good experiment.

Back to clay.

This week I spent some time working with clay, I even bought an entire bag of clay. The truth is I haven't made a single concentration piece out of clay in 2011 so I'm trying it out to see where I end up.

We also had a really cool snow day yesterday (Thursday)

Wood

So, if you couldn't tell already, most (actually all) of my projects in my concentration so far contain either wood or paper. Right now, I am experiencing a materials shortage, so this weekend I am going to venture out to a local source of wood materials. I have no idea what to expect, but I'm sure I'll find some cool things.

Water

Most of my concentration pieces have been based off of land based plants. My question now, is how can I incorporate water into my concentration? Will it work? Or, will it just not flow? Does light also interact with plants?

I clearly don't know the answer, so I'm going to spend some time working on different ideas and seeing what happens.

Blog Blog Blog!!!

Hey everyone,

I decided to take a moment to recap the first semester and outline some goals of mine for the next semester.

We had a great first semester; class bonding retreat, many projects were finished, and we were able to finalize our concentrations.

This semester, I would like to refine my concentration even further and finish it off strong.

One of the things I took from the comment critique card was the idea of motion. This is something that I plan on incorporating in the next set of projects. I also want to try make some planters inspired by ordinary objects such as lamps.
